In 2009, Karla and I began the process of becoming licensed foster parents. In October, 2010 we were given our fist placement. She was a beautiful baby girl that we were blessed to be foster parents with for 14 months. She left our home in November 2011 and we made the decision that we would put our license on hold for a while and go back to being a content family of two in our quaint 3 bedroom home. Then, just 3 months later our phone rang. On the other end was our case worker, asking us to hear her out. “We have a baby boy, a newborn…and we’d like for you to consider being his parents.” 2 weeks later we were bringing home our son.
Why did we adopt? We’ve never really considered that question closely enough to give a proper answer. It’s a question to similar to “Why did you get married?” I married Karla because I am in love with her. I wanted her to be my wife. She wanted me to be her husband. I suppose we could go into more detail, but at the end of the day, the answer is love.
The same is true with adoption. Why did we adopt? Love. No need to go into more detail, at the end of the day, the answer is love.
