Over the last five months our church has faced historic and fast paced change. This change has come at lighting fast speed. Here’s a quick (lightning fast) recap. And a reminder of just how unified and beautiful FBC Moberly is.
On March 20th, our church voted me in as Senior Pastor. That vote was nearly unanimous. My role as Senior Pastor left a void in the Associate Pastor chair.
On March 27th, our church celebrated the retirement of our beloved Senior Pastor, Pastor Bob Welsh. His retirement as Senior Pastor also meant a void as Worship leader.
By the beginning of May our Associate Pastor Search Committee had been formed and approved by our church. On May 10th our Search Committee began meeting.
In early May the Personnel Committee began searching for our Worship Leader.
Throughout June and July the process and search continued with our Personnel Committee and Search committee doing countless hours of work behind the scenes. These men and women labored for hours, working, and praying.
In early August our Personnel Committee announced Pastor Bob as the candidate for our worship leader and Trudy Barnes as the candidate for our choir director. Our church voted to approve them both at a near unanimous vote.
The following week our Search Committee announced that Michael Hunt would be the candidate for our Associate Pastor. This past Sunday our church voted to call him as our next Associate Pastor of Youth and Family Ministries, again at a near unanimous vote.
Recap: That’s four personnel/pastoral votes in a span of 161 days. And each vote showed a strong, nearly unanimous vote. For a church to experience this level of change this quickly and still show such strong unity is a testimony to the goodness and kindness of the Lord. He has made FBC Moberly a beautiful church. He has unified us around the Gospel of Jesus to the Glory of God. And our only proper response is to lift our hands in worship!
Church family, I am so excited to see what the Lord has in store for us. Together, we will fight to advance the Gospel in our community and in our world. Together, we will fight to protect the unity the Lord has blessed us with. And, together, we will fight to encourage each other to live out our faith for all the world to see.
It is a privilege to look out each week from the pulpit at FBC Moberly and see what Jesus sees: a beautiful church. Not a perfect church, a beautiful church. A church unified, a church on mission, together. Let’s storm the gates of hell and remind Satan the battle is already won.
