If you are exhausted, weary and burdened….then the last thing you need is a 2500 word blog to tell you what to do. So, I’m going to keep this short, sweet and simple.
Here’s the question: What do we do when life…takes the life out of us? When we are exhausted, weary, burdened or even fearful? What are some practical steps that we can take?
Jesus gives us clear and simple instructions “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. –Matthew 11:28-30 (CSB)
Jesus didn’t waste a word. Are you carrying a heavy burden? Are you exhausted? Are you fearful? What did Jesus say? “Come here…I’ll give you rest.”
But how? How do we go to Jesus and find rest? Let me suggest four practical steps for you to take so you can walk towards Jesus:
- Ask Jesus for help. Pray for strength, endurance, long-suffering. Ask him to help you give your burden to him.
- Read your Bible. It’s God’s Word, written to you, for you, about Jesus. There you find hope, peace and rest.
- Walk in faith. Faith is the “evidence of things not yet seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Trust that Jesus will take your weary and burdened heart and give you rest. You don’t see rest yet, but you will.
- Walk in community. The very first time that the Bible records God saying something is “not good” is in Genesis 2:18: “The Lord God said, it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him. “ (NLT). God made Adam because he knew it was “not good” for Adam to be alone. We (literally) were made for community. We need each other.
Take those four steps….and I promise…there, you will find rest.
