Why We Started Gold for Grey Ministries

         This past week we hosted our inaugural fundraising event for our non-profit, Gold for Grey Ministries.  It was a HUGE success! We are so thankful to so many people who gave items for the silent auction, gave time to work at the tenderloin dinner, gave money, bought items, and bought tenderloins.  And a HUGE thanks to the Moberly Eagles for cooking the best tenderloins in town and letting us fundraise with them!  

         After a long day, Karla and I arrived home late on Saturday evening and fell into our recliners.  Exhausted from all the day’s events but exhilarated from all the possibilities that lie ahead, we began to dream about awarding adoption grants to families.  In some ways, it was a bittersweet day.  We found out on Friday that another one of Greyson’s battle buddies had relapsed.  We mourned on Friday, both redeclaring how much we hate cancer and how unfair this gruesome disease is.  We saw many friends on Saturday, friends who had defeated cancer and family of friends who hadn’t.  We can’t say it enough: We hate cancer and how unfair this gruesome disease is. 

         We know that the Lord is sovereign, and we know that He is good.  We want to steward our suffering well and want to honor the suffering of Greyson well.  There are many organizations that exist to support children in the throes of battle.  We’ve partnered with them in the past.  We thank God for them. They ministered to us in a time when we were broken.  There is something special about these ministries, and we are forever grateful and forever supportive of them. We’ll always have one foot in the world of childhood disease, and in particular, childhood cancer. 

         But we knew that we wanted Gold for Grey Ministries to be different. We wanted Gold for Grey Ministries to be a ministry that focused on the “other foot,” so to speak.  We’ll always be involved in the cancer world, but we are passionate about adoption and passionate about missions.  We wanted to help kids find their new homes through adoption grants and building grants for homes to be built in third-world countries for families with children.  

         This ministry is unique.  I’m not sure there’s another one like it.  At least I haven’t found a ministry that specifically awards adoption grants and mission trip grants.  It’s unique, but really, doesn’t that make sense?  Greyson was unique and adopted by a unique family.   It seems to be the perfect, God-planted dream in our strange little hearts.  

Together, we’re helping kids find their new homes. We can’t wait to share with you stories of lives changed.  That’s coming in 2023.  For now, we need prayer partners and financial partners.  Will you commit to praying for us?
